SCOTLAND LIVE: Guy retires 1km from finish line

GUY'S thrilling fightback on RACMSA Rally of Scotland came to nothing when he retired just 1km from the finish line.

Guy and co-driver Phil Pugh had clawed their way back up to ninth after Saturday's high-speed spin demoted them to 23rd place.

They were second fastest on the 26km High Corrie 1 stage (SS11), third quickest on 10km Loch Chon 2 (SS12), and fourth quickest on SS13, High Corrie repeated.

Another second fastest time on the penultimate stage 2.84km Scone Palace 1 fulfilled Guy's promise to put on a show for the fans in the Peugeot UK 207 Super 2000.

But a final charge on SS15 Scone Palace 2 ended in disaster when he clipped a man-made chicane and lost a wheel.

Guy told guywilks.com: "It should have been a fairytale year for us - driving for Peugeot UK and working with Marc van Dalen and all the guys at Kronos. But we've been dogged by bad luck all season and absolutely nothing has gone our way.

"The car is fast enough to win and I hope I get the opportunity to prove it next year. It's unfinished business and I will only come back stronger."
